Chateau Status Restaurant

04 March 2023

On March 4, 2023, the Technical Committee on Culture organized the “Video and Drawing Competition” at Chateau Status Restaurant. This initiative aimed to engage children and youth with the island’s cultural heritage by inviting Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot participants to create artwork and videos inspired by 22 selected cultural heritage sites across the island.

Children aged 11-14 participated in the Drawing Competition, while youth aged 15-18 competed in the Video Competition. Entries were evaluated by two juries composed of Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot artists, as well as Technical Committee members.

Prior to the competition’s closing event, a workshop was conducted by Greek Cypriot artist Popi Nicolaou and Turkish Cypriot artist Batu Gündal, both renowned for their extensive experience in art. The workshop was open to all interested children, including those who had participated in the competition, and brought together more than 60 Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot children, aged 10-14, fostering creativity and understanding.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony, where opening remarks were delivered by Ms. Ferdiye Ersoy and Ms. Antigoni Solomonidou-Droussiotou, Co-Chairs of the Technical Committee on Culture. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to the esteemed Jury Members, followed by the announcement of the Drawing and Video Competition Awards. Participation certificates were also distributed to all participants.

This event was funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP in coordination with OSASG-Cyprus.
