11 September 2015
On September 11, 2015, the Cyprus Theatre Organization (THOK), in collaboration with the Association of the City Within the Walls of Famagusta (MASDER), staged Euripides’ tragedy Hippolytus at the Ancient Theater of Salamis in Famagusta, under the auspices of the Technical Committee on Culture.
Subtitled in both Turkish and English, this performance marked the first staging of an ancient Greek tragedy at the theater of Salamis since 1974. The event drew an audience of approximately 3,800 people, including Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, and members of the international community.
In their remarks, Greek Cypriot Vice Co-Chair Yannis Toumazis and MASDER President Serdar Atai emphasized the significance of the event and the overwhelming public response, noting that even the steps of the ancient theater were filled with spectators.
